Let’s head over to the pantry! Many RVs come with minimal lighting when it comes to the pantry. You may be thinking about how to light your RV. An affordable and convenient modification is to add LED light strips running vertically on the inside of the pantry so you can clearly see each shelf! We have heard of the pop light addition as well to remedy this issue. Both are worth the consideration, otherwise, you might end up with stale bread in the back of the pantry!
RV Storage Solutions
An additional consideration for the pantry is storage. Don’t go out and buy a bunch of containers to put your stuff in, until you know what your pantry looks like. Every RV is different meaning some pantry layouts are deep and some are narrow. This is something you will decide as you live in or utilize your RV, so it’s not necessary to rush into a purchase. Just use a few chip clips for now and call it good!
RV safety upgrades
Next up is the Keyless RV Lock. We get asked all the time, “What is the best RV lock?” and while we don’t have a ton of experience with multiple brands, this one has served us well, and we’ve never had any issues! The only downfall is that you have to replace the batteries on occasion. Keep a separate key fob out with you or hidden nearby, just in case the batteries decide to go kaput while you’re away. This brand makes several styles to fit your RV type; some are a little more compact than others so that you can ensure the best fit! It also has a key fob and with just a click of a button, you can lock and unlock (especially nice when your hands are full!).
RV surge protector
We’re jumping to the big dog in the RV Life. Maybe you are asking yourself, “Do I need an RV surge protector?” Electrical boxes at campgrounds can be faulty and can potentially fry your RV electrical systems, costing you big bucks! There are a few types of surge protectors that can protect your RV from this and we opted for Progressive Industries Inline Surge Protector. We believe it is the best RV surge protector on the market! This addition is great because it isn’t exposed to the outdoor elements as in some styles. This prevents theft and other possible issues due to weather.
Another great thing about the inline surge protector is it comes with two boxes, so you are able to monitor from two locations if needed. We placed one inside our entry closet and one in the underpass, which gives constant feedback so you know what you are using. Another feature of the inline is that it is hardwired into the inline power source of the RV. This is one of our top recommendations when starting out in the RV Life.

A great way to save space in your RV is to begin by clearing the kitchen counter space, which means saying bye to the knife block! We tested this caddy bar magnetic knife holder out and it has held up well over time. We really thought there was a chance knives would go flying during travel days. Yikes. Instead, this easy-to-install magnetic holder has allowed us to ditch the bulky knife block and utilize every inch of storage space, even the walls!
We’ve heard plenty RVer’s change out their shower heads, and that’s definitely not a bad idea depending on the one that came with your camper. However, the sink faucets are not to be overlooked! We opted to replace ours with this one we found on Amazon. Some faucets have low clearance to the sink bowl, and while it isn’t a big deal the first few times you use it — living with it day in and day out can wear on you.
Adding some rugs, pillows, or a new bed set goes a long way in sprucing up your space! It’s an easy, non-permanent way to make some changes and customize your living area! We swapped our dinette chairs for ottomans that also double as more storage. That’s considered a win in the RV life! We have really lucked out on finding some of these decorations and furniture on Amazon, but you can also search the area, you’re visiting, for places like Hobby Lobby or Target.
